Work Session / 2023 Budget and Levy: The City Council met for the third time to review and discuss the 2023 Budget and Tax Levy. The City Council will next consider adopting a Preliminary Tax Levy at their regular meeting on September 19. The preliminary tax levy establishes the maximum property tax amount to be considered for the upcoming budget year and will be used to prepare “Truth In Taxation” notices for property owners. This notice shows the tax impact the preliminary levy would have on property taxes and also invites property owners to attend an upcoming City Council meeting to provide feedback on the proposed 2023 Budget and Levy.
Work Session / Long-Term Financial Plan: The City Council also convened for the third time to discuss the Long-Term Financial Plan, which includes the Capital Improvement Plan or CIP. The CIP is a five year plan, updated annually, that designates future projects related to streets, utilities, equipment, buildings, and staffing, along with providing a corresponding financial impact and funding plan. The City Council will consider adopting the 2023-2027 Long-Term Financial Plan at their regular meeting on October 3.
Work Session / Hartwell and Ironwood: The City Engineer, Dan Lonnes, reviewed improvements to the intersection of Hartwell Dr. and Ironwood Dr., near Carver Elementary, intended to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety. This fall, the City will also be conducting a traffic study, to assess long-term needs at the intersection.
Mizzy’s Pizza: The City Council approved a site plan for Mizzy’s Pizza, to be located in Carver Square at 4715 Dahlgren Rd. Mizzy’s Pizza plans to start construction this fall on a 4,945 sq. ft. restaurant. The building also includes 2,587 sq. ft. of retail/office space for future lease.

Timber Creek / 2nd Addition: The City Council approved the Final Plat for sixty eight (68) new single-family homes by Lennar in the Timber Creek Development. Timber Creek is located just west of Carver Elementary and south of Monroe Drive.
